As the Baratza Virtuoso is basically a higher end model than the Baratza Encore, it should come as no surprise that the Virtuoso is the clear winner.
The Virtuoso wins on almost all point in our Encore vs. Virtuoso comparison, except on price. It's higher quality burrs and better overall build quality come at a higher price than the Baratza Encore. However, it's still a great price for an excellent grinder.
Tie / Baratza Virtuoso
When doing a Baratza Virtuoso vs. Preciso comparison on features, it becomes fairly evident that these two devices share Baratza’s general ethos when it comes to burr grinders. Both devices have the same, high-quality adjustment features that are found on all of Baratza’s burr grinders.
Both devices feature a fairly powerful 450 RPM motor that adds a significant amount of strength to the grind. Both devices have a cool, slower grind than many other competing brands that results in less static buildup in the ground beans as well as a quieter overall grind. And just like the Baratza Virtuoso, both devices feature Baratza’s iconic pulse button right on the center front of the device.
The key difference in features between the two devices is in the included PortaHolder that comes with the Baratza Preciso. This portable holder (the actual name is a portmanteau of the two words) allows for hands-free grinding directly into an espresso filter.
You can grind the exact amount you need for the perfect espresso, and exactly at exactly the right grind level that you’re looking for.
The Baratza Preciso also has enhanced grind features, which we will look into in more detail in the grind settings/coarseness section.
That said because the Baratza Preciso has the same base features as the Baratza Virtuoso, but then tacks on a few more for good measure, in this Baratza Preciso vs. Baratza Virtuoso comparison on features, the Baratza Preciso takes home the gold.
Baratza is well known for the quality of its construction. As such, a Baratza Virtuoso vs. Preciso comparison is essentially a dead. Both devices are crafted with high-quality materials, making both devices a bit heavy for their actual size.
The Baratza Virtuoso is only slightly lighter at 8.6 pounds while the Baratza Preciso is 8.8 pounds. The difference in weight may seem insignificant, but that slight difference in weight is directly attributable to the extra features on the Preciso. In particular, this relates to the PortaHolder feature on the Preciso that the Virtuoso does not possess.
The internals on both devices
In this article we compare the Breville Smart Grinder (both the original and the Pro) to the Virtuoso. These machines are so close it's almost a tie, but you can't go wrong with any of these excellent grinders.
The Baratza Encore is an entry-level burr grinder, which offers less features for a lower price. In this comparison article we help you decide if the Baratza Virtuoso is worth its higher price tag (spoiler alert: it is!)
Not only is the Baratza Virtuoso one of the most compared coffee grinders on our site, it also has its own full detailed reviews. If you're still unsure about choosing a Virtuoso or Preciso, this review might help.
When looking at the grind settings, a Baratza Virtuoso vs. Preciso comparison comes strictly down to precision. Both devices have Baratza’s iconic 40 grind settings. These grind settings are adjustable by twisting the hopper and setting the dial to the desired location, from very coarse to very fine. The difference appears when analyzing a Baratza Preciso review.
The Baratza Preciso has another dial with 11 more settings. These 11 additional
This key difference between the two devices is indeed the only difference regarding the grind settings. However, because the Baratza Preciso does allow for that fine tuning, it wins between the two devices for adding that extra feature.
No true Baratza Virtuoso vs. Preciso comparison would be complete without a quick look at the price. For these two devices, the prices available are not directly set in stone.
The Baratza Virtuoso has a listing price of $329.00, but is much seen with a discounted price that brings it to $229. Meanwhile, the Baratza Preciso has a list price of $399 with a discounted price that brings it down to $299.
Choosing between the two comes down to whether the added features on the Baratza Preciso really warrant the added $70. When looking the overall features of both devices, their similarities are striking. The added MIRCOadjust and the PortaHolder on the Baratza Preciso are certainly a nice touch, but ultimately they may be a bit hard of a sell for that $70 extra dollars. However, for some buyers, those added features may be just enough.
Nevertheless, the overall design and build of the two devices, even with the MICROadjust added to the Baratza Preciso, are just a bit too similar to justify that much of a price increase, unless you find yourself absolutely needing that extra precise grind. The winner for price between the two falls squarely in the court for the Baratza Virtuoso.
Judging the aesthetics of the Baratza Encore vs. Virtuoso is quite difficult, as these two units look rather similar.
Baratza has a very consistent design throughout all of his models, which makes it hard to rate any of them on design differences.
The biggest difference between the Encore and the Virtuoso is the inclusion of a stainless steel plate on the front of the Virtuoso. The Encore features only black plastic. Overall the Virtuoso sports a more solid look.
Obviously, the decision between which is of these two is rather subjective and best left up to the buyer, but if you ask us, we like the smart look of the Virtuoso. The stainless steel just looks more dignified. Both units have a similar footprint, which isn’t too large or too small. Results is a tie, with a small nod to the Virtuoso.
Even though the Preciso is not the winner in this comparison, it's still a great grinder. In this detailed review we'll explain more about its features like MICROAdjust.
This Baratza Virtuoso vs. Preciso competition overall falls on the side of the Baratza Virtuoso. Despite the two devices having similarities, their price differences do not completely match up with the small differences Baratza puts on the Preciso.
The Baratza Preciso does have unique features that make it a highly attractive device, yet those changes are not enough to overall justify the price difference. If at some point, the price does come down a little bit, the Preciso would be the clear winner between the two.
We declare the Baratza Virtuoso the winner for now, but actually it's more of a tie.
